![]() ![]() I think this is likely because there is so much action in this one, as compared to the other two. The Return of the King is by far the best book out of the three. Getting used to the writing style and the split in the narrative between Gandalf (et al.) and Frodo and Sam takes some effort – as well as just generally remembering to pay attention. ![]() These books, being written in the ’50s, are not written like contemporary fantasy is. I watched the movies several times before I read these books, and for me that really helped. Doing the audiobooks was definitely a great way to take this on! And I’m glad I now have. I think like many people I’d been wanting to read these books but at the same time really not wanting to go to the effort. ![]()
